Historical context

The Indian Ocean (OI) zone has emerged as a pivotal focal point for the development of this DP. It owes its significance to the longstanding collaborative efforts among Indian Ocean Commission (IOC) countries in the realm of plant protection, spanning over two decades. This collaboration has been underpinned by the coordination of the Regional Plant Protection Program (PRPV) network. Furthermore, the establishment of the Plant Protection Pole in Saint Pierre in 2001 stands as a noteworthy milestone. This international-level infrastructure is exclusively dedicated to the domains of health and biodiversity, thus contributing substantially to the region's scientific and research capabilities.
